A young girl tries to paint her grey industrial world with a palette of rainbow colours, replacing the dull monotony of steel with trees. But her efforts are continually thwarted. As her frustration increases, the dismal landscape all but swallows her up. It’s only after she accepts herself that she is able to accept the world around her. Janet Alexander’s symbolic film was produced over two summers in a workshop with 25 at-risk teenagers. It is a tribute to the immense challenges the group members had to overcome for the project, and in their personal lives.
